This talk will present a perspective view on the structure and dynamics of ionic liquids (ILs) trying to make connections with recent findings on high-temperature molten salts. Whereas understanding how and why ILs display order on different length scales may be intuitive, this is less so when dealing with purely "polar" and highly charged inorganic systems. The talk will attempt to cover both the behavior of ILs in the bulk and at interfaces. If possible, some aspects of structural dynamics will also be covered including connections with the viscoelastic relaxation of ILs.
